King County Elections at Bumbershoot encourages YOU to vote

As I was walking through the sea of people at Bumbershoot yesterday, not only could I not figure out what country I was in, but what county (I explain below). The day was filled with strange outfits, foreign music, and more Rockstar energy drinks than you can imagine. This is quite a different crowd than you'll find at your average fair in Eastern Washington. I really think that they need a good tagline for advertising, and based on my observations, I supposed that if you can do the Puyallap, then you can smoke Bumbershoot. Or at least pot.

But what caught my eye even more than the 14-year-olds smoking cigarettes and people wearing Obama v-neck t-shirts was the King County Elections Booth. They were encouraging people to get registered to vote and to vote by mail. They put up this poster for people to see: Photobucket

This picture disturbed me because it made me stop to think about what kind of world I live in now. Is this really what voting has come to? Is this the kind person that we really want to decide who controls our government?? This is the literal and actual poster child for voting! Give me a break. I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with choosing to style your hair, pierce your body, or wear leather, but the point is that someone at King County elections, a "non-partisan" office decided that it would be a good idea to advertise voting with this picture. When you wonder about how fair the elections will be in King County this November, seeing things like this doesn't give me a lot of "hope."

Help spread the word on signing the petition

I  created the following petitions. Can you help spread the word to your supporters?
If you are Democrat, Republican or Independent female supporter for Palin but NOT an ex-Hillary supporter, sign this petition.

If you are a ex-Hillary supporter (which I guess most of you are..) sign this:

---NOTE: This petition is not working at the moment.. I've emailed support and will be fixed asap. See the womenforpalin petition below in the meantime!

This is where our problem lies....

The most beautiful and "in fashion" have just as horrible of a tendency to make poor choices or unintelligent statements when it comes to  politics (let's just take one little blink at Hollywood).  Sure I can see where you'd be a little shocked to see a punk kid on the voting thing. But welcome to Seattle.  As long as that person on the poster has an intelligent backing for her decision to vote, I'm cool with it.

Yep

Yeah, it's a good point Ben.  Weird choice of picture for this poster.

The Arizona Credit Union System
evidently wants the payday advance industry in the state to
dry up and die. Their position is likely fueled entirely by self interest, and
they are stepping up its
lobbying efforts
in order to drive the competition out and get their hands
on their customers. The Arizona Community Financial
Services Association is one of the organizations vying to
pass Proposition 200, which will regulate the industry in the
state, reforming the industry into a completely legitimate and regulated
industry, which will benefit the businesses, but most of all the consumers. The
bill will lower loan fees, create far more flexible repayment plans, and put
greater restrictions on physical stores and further regulate the online
lenders. These are real reforms, and they benefit the consumers, but they also will
stave off the doomsday clock for payday loan lenders in the
state, set to expire in 2010. Does anyone really think that ANY state in can
afford to create more unemployment?

Vice Presidential hopeful, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin,
has been getting more of a bad rap from the mainstream media, than she has in
praises. Last weekend, for example, she made her late-night entertainment debut
on NBC’s long-running pop culture mainstay, Saturday
Night Live. Instead of praising her for the good sport she was, or
noting that her appearance gave SNL its highest
ratings in 14 years, she has been highly criticized by the press for
her appearance. For several weeks now, jab after jab has been taken at Palin,
bashing her on everything from questioning her performance as the Governor
of Alaska, her seventeen-year old daughter who got pregnant out of
wedlock, and even sleazy attacks on her character. Some in the media, including
many liberal pundits, have stooped so low as to insinuate that our country would
fall to shambles if Palin was forced to take over the office
of Presidency if something should happen to Republican Presidential Candidate John
McCain. Contrary to the popular belief, virtually all of these attacks
are chock full of half-truths, low-blowing character attacks and outright lies.
Furthermore, a large number of people admire Sarah Palin for
her relentless efforts to better things in her home state of Alaska. Others
point to her unwavering support of the disabled demographic, her work in the
interests of children and people with special needs and widely misunderstood
ailments such as autism and Down syndrome; many of which never have gotten the
attention they deserve. Many more put their faith in Sarah Palin,
considering her advocacy for personal responsibility and financial
freedom. Much of this even includes her opposing to do away with cash
advances, a legitimate and invaluable resource that lots of real,
responsible, working people have relied on to get out of dire straits once and
for all.
